I am so excited to share one of my favorite newborn sessions! I met Astleigh & Pete when I photographed her maternity session, and we were quick friends. She has an amazing lifestyle blog called Hill Collection Blog. She shares so much of sweet motherhood and her beautiful home. Astleigh was kind enough to guest blog for me today and share her experience with their newborn lifestyle session! Enjoy!
I loved the idea of Rachel capturing us in our element at home as new parents with our newborn instead of in a more structured studio session. Being so comfortable in our own home helped us to quickly become comfortable in front of the camera. And that resulted in some really beautiful and natural photos of us doing life.
Being at home for these photos allowed us to take a break when we needed it, whether it was for a diaper change or for the baby to nurse. Rachel was so flexible with us in this regard and she was also able to photograph some sweet and personal moments that we wouldn’t have otherwise had the opportunity for.
We wanted to have photographs of our daughter in her first couple of weeks of life, to preserve that newborn look as best we could. Keeping our session at home kept us from taking a tiny baby out into the cold of winter and allowed this mama to keep comfortable at home after a cesarean. We didn’t need to worry about packing everything up or forgetting something, which kept us from feeling frazzled before the session began.
Being at home for our newborn session felt like the best option and it turned out to be exactly what we had hoped for. Rachel caught one of the sweetest times of our life as we adjusted into parenthood and loved on our tiniest addition. We feel so fortunate that we were able to do it all at home, where we felt most like ourselves…not posed or perfectly put together.
beautiful!
